Do you have a list of psychos you just love? Me neither so I am writing for a friend!!
N/B; Psycho in this text is used to refer to characters that have a twisted or unconventional way of thinking and doing things. Their choices may be considered out of the normal definition of upright!
Pablo Escobar- was he even a psycho?
I think I have a thing for drug lords (even better when they are Latino!). Not just him, I really loved the Miss Bala guy- Lino Esparza! I watched a video on YouTube of someone telling a story of how he went to heaven and came back and I remember one thing he said. He said that when he asked God which religion was the right one, God said to him, ‘there are many good people in bad religions and many bad people in good religions’ I took that to mean that it was the heart that matters. Only that! Pablo Escobar embodied that. He dealt drugs, was ruthless when it came to business but also had a lot of compassion for his people and his family. He fed the people who were starving, he literally gave money to the poor when their leaders were not doing much. He returned loyalty to the people he worked closely with. When he did bad things, he did not spare anyone but when he was good, the people felt it as well. I think that is the reason the people of Medellin loved him and helped keep him safe for so many years.
Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey!
I have a confession, anything of mine I have named Christian is named after him. Writing this post made me rethink his position on my list because for one, I am not an Anastasia or anything, but I figured what it is that draws me to him. Christian Grey doesn’t look like anything we find him to be. Or rather, he doesn’t show or tell everything about him unnecessarily. Outside of his story with Anna, he didn’t look like the type. I like that about him. I don’t think who you are, what you do or how you think is everyone’s business. He had a degree of mystery that makes his character a favourite.
Berlin in Money Heist.
There is something Berlin always did with his fingers. He moved them as though he was squeezing something inside. I found myself doing that several times. Anyway, I loved that Berlin lived every moment to the fullest, even when things were tough and tomorrow was more likely to not happen than to happen. He would always smile, drink champagne or dance the anxiety away or rather dance to keep it far from him. Being able to live a day at a time, to live in the moment is an underrated skill if you ask me and with all his madness, he had mastered it.
Sarmiento in The Marked Heart!
Ok! I know he trafficked human body organs among other nasty things but I mean! I love his ability to block the entire world when he did the things he liked. When he was cooking, it was just him and his ingredients. When painting, nothing else was more important than his brush and canvas (which was mostly a woman’s body) I actually thought it was cool that he made art on people’s body. And he made good art you know. Something close to what Michael Soi does but focusing on the back. My favourite part watching him is when he says,”There are three things I can’t stand; stupidity, lousy cooking and people that make me wait!” As someone who has history making everyone wait and has done some lousy cooking (in the past guys! In the past!) I felt really attacked. At least my intelligence compensates, right? I still really liked him though.
Anna Delvey in Inventing Anna!
Anna!! Anna!! Anna!! Where do I start? I think she was more of a genius than a con artist! One thing about her, she believed in her dream and vision for her personal brand. She did everything she could to prepare herself for her brand, both good and bad. Knowing very well she is not an heiress and didn’t really grow up in money as she made everyone believe, she had to make herself knowledgeable on everything that would aid her story of being a rich girl. She learnt everything there is about wine, best places to be in the world and the best hotels. Anna always had a recommendation for everything. She learnt etiquette and everything that entailed looking polished. Didn’t she almost have it all?
