I have never confessed to myself that I have had a crush on anyone at some point in my life let alone been in love. Well, the love part I am still not sure but a crush I have had. More times than I should admit.
Below is my crush list in no particular order!!
NB; all names used are not the real names of the persons.
Sijui was in my kindergarten/ nursery school which I cannot remember the name. I also cannot remember his actual name or how he looked like but I remember he was fun to be around. I guess how we crushed on each other was by competing in class? He was pretty smart and I liked that.
Pipi was a Muslim. He was my desk mate in class 3. He used to carry a lot of sweets each day and then put them under his desk. They weren’t just any sweets. They were jelly-like but with some chocolate at the centre, I loved them. He once caught my arm sneaking into his desk and ever since he intentionally put them there. I think it is safe to say that he ushered me into eating in class!! Unfortunately, he transferred from our school. Didn’t even make it to upper primary.
Uno was the first boy that I ever let myself believe when he said, ’I love you.’ I never had a crush on him until we met and he liked me and then it was mutual. He looked at me some typa way and made me feel so many things, both good and bad. He had a lot of information on almost everything! I legit would listen to him all day.
Amor would send me many texts professing his love for me when we went home but never said a word at school! I just couldn’t understand why. We’d have discussions in class and all but he never brought it up. He was very reserved and intelligent. He was almost always on top of the class. He once gave me an ultimatum. I remember he said, ‘if you love me, reply to this message by tomorrow 10 a.m.’ Guess who never replied? I was a little confused by his way of communicating.
Bidii was an Instagram product. I think I just liked his work ethic and how focused he was on his hustle. His style is also on another level. When I found out that he was younger than me, I uncrushed him immediately.
Shaka was a bad boy and he wasn’t even in denial. He is the reason I do not ask the male gender what they want from or with me because he told me. He gave me a detailed description of exactly what he wanted to do!! It was some good bad things. I did not know what to tell him so I said, ‘you are mad.’ I eventually snapped out of my bad boy fantasies and got my sanity back.
Baro, oh Baro. I remember seeing this meme ‘I exchanged more numbers at the library than I ever borrowed books’ Baro was a library product. He was dark-skinned. Very dark and evenly toned. He dressed so well. He approached me first though. We stopped texting for some reason not long after.
Pinky was Chinese. He looked amazing in pink and generally all bright colours. He and I were group members for a certain activity. When we had finished, he was standing next to me while we posed for a group photo. He placed his arm on my shoulder. I pulled my shoulder slightly away in shock and excitement but he thought I was pulling away so he apologized and put his arm down. And that is all that ever happened between us.
Kiu was light skin and mostly wore shorts and Ts. I thus had enough time to notice all the hair on his legs and arms. I know it does not make sense but I loved how his very dark hair looked on his light skin. He also drunk a lot of water. Would you believe he had a 3 litre (or so I thought) bottle attached to his bag? It was huge. That was not the only thing about him. Kiu had a brain and a half and that is where all the magic happened.
Zuri was (still is) making the world a better place. One person at a time. He was always looking for ways to help other people who he doesn’t even know and I think that is what I liked most about him.
Well enough with my list. I’m really curious, what is your take away from my crush list? Mine is: not every crush needs to become a relationship. Some were feelings of admiration while others I just needed to complement them and that was it.
